PROGRAM GOALS

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Mackay Basketball Junior Rep program is to enhance the basketball skills, ability & knowledge of its players & coaches through a safe & hard working environment so every child can reach their full potential, develop their talents and increase their skills in the game of basketball and more importantly life. In addition, promoting character-building, discipline, healthy lifestyles in a family-oriented association.

Through routine team & individual practices, players & coaches can strive to be the best they can be. Though the rep program is a highly competitive basketball program, the focal point is development & education to optimise individual & team excellence. This is achieved through a club system & style of play which leads to championships.

In order to achieve this Mackay Basketball will provide:

  • All players with equal opportunity for skill development over the period in which the program is conducted.
  • Players will be required to meet association, state and national standards of skill development by the end of the program.
  • A sound, safe and caring environment in which players participate in.
  • Opportunity for players to participate in all carnivals and/or tournaments conducted in QLD.
  • Pathways to higher levels of representative Basketball.
  • Knowledgeable and accredited coaches and also the opportunity for further coach education throughout the program.
  • Up to date information on current key teaching areas and ‘style of play’ for coaches in line with the state and national curriculum.

Players, coaches and managers will be expected to:

  • Adhere to all codes of conduct and program guidelines as outlined.
  • Attend all team trainings and games as directed by the head coach or MBI Development Manager.
  • Coaches and managers must hold a current “Working with Children” Blue Card.
  • Dedicate themselves to their continual improvement in skill development and match performance.
  • Coaches, players and teams will be assessed not only on their performance in the Queensland North Junior Basketball Competition (QNJBC) & Basketball Queensland State Championships, but also through the improvement in individual skill level and performance on court throughout the program.
