MACKAY, QUEENSLAND – Mackay Basketball is pleased to announce Rob Grieve as the new McDonald’s Mackay Meteorettes NBL1 North Head Coach for 2022.
Grieve, who currently serves as the Mackay Basketball Player and Coach Development Manager will take on the additional duty as McDonald’s Mackay Meteorettes mentor starting in January.
The 32-year-old is no stranger to high-level hoops, having spent four-years coaching women’s college basketball in the United States.
Grieve was Assistant Coach with Arkansas Tech University from 2018 to 2020 and was on the sidelines when the Golden Suns claimed the 2018 Great American Conference Tournament Championship, before finishing GAC runners-up in 2019. Prior to his time in Arkansas, Grieve was Video Coordinator with NCAA Division 1 program Marshall University in 2017.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, the Melbourne native has also coached representative basketball in Victoria with the Bulleen Boomers, Melbourne Tigers and Diamond Valley Eagles.
Grieve said he was looking forward to the challenge of leading the 2022 McDonald’s Meteorettes in his maiden NBL1 coaching campaign.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity and being a part of a program that has a proud, winning tradition,” Grieve said.
“We’ve got a lot of talent in our Mackay Basketball women’s program at the moment, and I’m thrilled to be able to work with this group of elite athletes to help build on the clubs success.”
When asked about his coaching style, Grieve was clear with his vision for the Meteorettes in 2022.
“We want to be a team that plays up tempo, spaces the floor, and shares the ball to make sure we get a good look every time down the floor. On defence we want to compete on every possession and find ways to take our opposition out of their comfort zone.”
“It all starts with laying the foundation in the pre-season though and I can’t wait to get out on the floor in February and start building towards an NBL1 North finals run.”
McDonald’s Mackay Meteorettes player signing announcements will begin rolling out in 2022.
