Referees

A very important part of any sport are the referees who officiate – without them, we wouldn’t have a game!

With competitions running 7 days a week opportunities for growth and experience are here. Becoming a referee can help you stay active, increase your knowledge for the game and you can even earn some extra pocket money.

Becoming a referee can provide many opportunities for you. With hard work and dedication you may even get the chance to referee at a State, National and even International level. We pride ourselves on developing and producing high quality and experienced referees.

REFEREE EXPECTATIONS

Behaviour & Expectations
Your behaviour on the court is crucial for maintaining a fair and respectful game. Below are some reminders of what is expected of an MBI referee.
  • Professionalism: Referees should remain composed and focused at all times, no shooting during timeouts or halftime, putting your phone away during games, and coming prepared with your water bottle and whistle.
  • Respect: You shall treat all players, coaches, and fellow officials with respect. Be impartial, fair, and consistent in your decision-making.
  • Communication: Be open to brief and appropriate discussions with coaches and players. If the discussion is deemed appropriate at the time.
  • Control: Manage the game by enforcing the rules fairly, maintaining control of the game by addressing any issues such as unsportsmanlike conduct promptly.
  • Positivity: Encourage a positive environment. Even if it’s just smiling at each other during the game and having a laugh at halftime.
  • Safety: Always prioritise the safety of the players and make decisions that ensure a safe playing environment.
