MACKAY, QUEENSLAND – After 3 and ½ years serving as Mackay Basketball General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Jason Borg will finish in the role on Wednesday, December 16.
Borg helped steer the Mackay Basketball ship through a difficult 2020, where the association was close to shutting its doors due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s certainly been a challenging year,” Borg said.
“There were a few moments where I wasn’t sure how things would play out with COVID. However, once we got the clearance from authorities to resume play, it was all systems go and the back end of the year was probably one of the busiest periods in the history of our association.”
“Running our normal junior and senior competitions, hosting a Basketball Queensland state championship, delivering a highly successful WNBL hub and winning both women’s and men’s CQ Cup titles, along with all the other outside community events we held, made it quite a few demanding months.”
“With the support of our staff and the wonderful volunteers we have involved with Mackay Basketball, collectively we were able to get it all done.”
Borg said he wasn’t sure what was next up on his to-do list, other than taking a well-earned rest.
“It’s been a massive year for me personally, I’m looking forward to putting my feet up and having a break.”
“I won’t be a stranger to the club though and will certainly be involved in some capacity going forward.”
“One thing I am very proud of is leaving Mackay Basketball in a better position than when I started in the role in 2017.”
Mackay Basketball have commenced the search for a new General Manager via SEEK.
