Mackay Basketball Update | July 6

Hello Mackay Basketball Members and families.

We hope that you are all dealing well through the uncertain times bought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the latest update from Mackay Basketball to keep you informed as best we can.

Stage 3 of State Government Roadmap to Easing Restrictions

I am pleased to say they we have received our Industry Plan approval from the State Government. Upon receipt of this approval MBI sent the appropriate paperwork to Mackay Regional Council to obtain local government approval. This approval has now been received, so MBI can now enter Stage 3 protocols. What does this mean? A lot of the protocols from Stage 2 will remain regarding hygiene and regulations. However, we can commence training with scrimmaging, go for longer periods and more than once a week. Also, competitions can commence. Social distancing protocols off the playing surface will remain in effect, separate entry/exit points will remain and hand sanitiser in/out of the venue does stay the same. The water bubbler in the current protocols must remain turned off. Athletes must continue to bring their own personal equipment (water bottle, towel, ball) to training sessions. All balls must still be sanitised for training sessions.

Contact Tracing

It is a condition of the Government authorities that any person who enters the facility, must record their name, phone number, email address, time in/out and date, for tracing purposes. This information must be kept for 56 days. MBI is in the process of implementing a digital app to help with this, but until this time these records will continue to be on paper.

McDonald’s Mackay Multi-Sports Stadium

During the school holiday period, apart from Wednesday 8 July, casual shooting is available from 9am to 3pm. It is $5/hour per person. After school holidays casual shooting will be between 12 noon and 3pm. Please make sure to call 4957 5543 to book your times.

Competitions

MBI junior and Senior competition schedules are available on our Mackay Basketball website www.mackaybasketball.com. Senior competitions will begin on Sunday 26 July and the first grading round for juniors will commence on Saturday 1 August. Registrations opened online last week and can be accessed at any time. This season MBI, after consultation with clubs and a member survey, have opted for an upfront model of registrations and game fees. For new players a sign on day will be conducted at McDonald’s Mackay Multisport Stadium on Saturday 18 July from 9am to 12 noon.

Mackay Basketball QBL ‘Teams of the Decade’

Announcements regarding our Global Product Search Mackay Meteorettes and McDonald’s Mackay Meteors QBL ‘TEAMS OF THE DECADE’ will commence this week.

Stay tuned to our Mackay Basketball Facebook & Instagram pages to see the athletes as voted by the public. Thanks to everybody that took the time to have their say!

Rep Teams

With the introduction of Stage 3 protocols by the state government, it seems that State Championships events, scheduled for September/October school holidays will go ahead. Also, the under 12/14 QNJBC event in Townsville over the weekend of 14-16 August. If we receive any information from Basketball Queensland, we will contact rep teams asap. MBI will be in contact with rep coaches/managers to organise a training schedule in the near future.

To finish this update, can I take the opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and the adherence to rules and protocols over the last 3 months. Also, a big thank you to the staff and committee for the massive amount of work behind the scenes during this difficult period. Going forward we look forward to welcoming you back and playing the game we all love, remembering to abide by all necessary protocols.
