Hello Mackay Basketball Members and families.
This is the latest update from Mackay Basketball to keep you informed.
Contact Tracing
At Mackay Basketball you should be aware of the “Swipedon” contactless tracing app that we have implemented. There has been some misunderstandings as to when this is to be used.
EVERY person who enters the facility for any reason (except players on game day as they are traced via the scoring app) must register in and out. If you are training, you MUST register. MBI have added several more QR codes around the facility to assist you.
Remember, once you have loaded the register on your device, move to your part of the venue and fill out, so we do not have congestion at the entry. If for some reason it does not work on your device, or you do not have a device, please see a member of MBI staff to assist.
Facility Maintenance
As some of you will probably know, we had an issue with a backboard on Court 2 recently.
Happily, the repairs and maintenance were completed within 5 days and caused as little disruption as possible. Thank you to all teams who had to have trainings rescheduled or cancelled due to these works.
New Grandstand – Official Opening Event
The official opening of our NEW CORPORATE GRANDSTAND will take place at the McDonald’s Mackay Stadium on Saturday, September 5.
Members of our association are kindly invited to attend.
The schedule for the evening is as follows:
- 5:00pm: U16 Mackay Meteors vs U16 Rockhampton Rockets (Curtain Raiser)
- 6:45pm: Official Opening
- 7:15pm: Mackay Basketball Community All Star Game

Competitions
MBI Junior & Senior competition schedules are available on our Mackay Basketball website www.mackaybasketball.com.
Senior competitions began on Sunday 26 July and the regular season for juniors, (U15 & below) commenced on Saturday 22 August.
We are still taking registrations and can pro rata fees based on an individual start date.
We still urgently require players in Under 15 boys (2007, 2008) and the Under 9 competition. If we can get the numbers in under 9, we can go to single gender comps but currently they are mixed.
Rep Teams
Our Under 12 & 14 rep teams attended the QNJBC event in Townsville over the weekend of 14-16 August and did our association proud.
At this point all State Championships are going ahead during the September/October School holidays. If we receive any information from Basketball Queensland, we will contact rep teams asap. Due to COVID restrictions and protocols these State Championships will be strictly run events, with venue capacities enforced. All ticketing will need to be pre-booked and paid for in advance. Once we have confirmations of how to book tickets and capacities we will advise.
Under 14 Girls State Championships – Mackay
The State Championship for Under 14 girls is being hosted at McDonald’s Mackay Multisport Stadium from Friday October 2 to Monday October 5. If anyone wishes to volunteer to assist with this event, please contact MBI office via email to admin@mackaybasketball.com.au. Any assistance given will be greatly appreciated, as due to COVID, there is a lot of extra work between games due to hygiene and cleaning and court controllers.
