Mackay Basketball Update | June 8

Hello Mackay Basketball Members and families.

We hope that you are all dealing well through the uncertain times bought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the latest update around Basketball to keep you informed as best we can.

McDonald’s Mackay Multisport Stadium

Since the last update, a lot has been going on in relation to “Return to Play”, “Easing Restrictions” and “Roadmaps”.

As you may be aware the State Government bought forward the date of Stage 2 restrictions to June 1st.  MBI is guided by our governing body – Basketball Queensland, and the Mackay Regional Council in relation to when we can open our doors and what protocols must be in place.

The Basketball Queensland and QSport COVID-19 Safe Plan was approved by the QLD Chief Medical Officer last Friday evening. MBI is now awaiting approval from our local government to open the venue for training sessions and casual shooting.

While this industry plan is approved, please be aware that  there will be strict protocols and regulations that must be followed by all users of the facility.

These include –

  • Separate entry/exit points
  • Compulsory sign-in and sign-out registers to track attendance and assist with contact tracing if necessary
  • Sanitisation stations that must be used
  • Directional flow arrows
  • No social gathering
  • Staying in designated areas
  • Use of own drink bottles, towels (no sharing)
  • No changeroom facilities will be available
  • Strict get in-train-get out policy
  • If you are unwell do not come

When we are open for training, all members who enter the facility must adhere strictly to any instructions they are given by the Biosecurity Officer (BO) in charge. This person will be wearing a high visibility vest.

Representative Program Update

This is the same as the last update and no advice has been given yet, so in case you missed it last time and are involved have a read.

As you are probably aware, BQ recently asked participants who will be attending the Under 12, 14 and 16 State Championships to complete a second survey so that they could gauge their propensity to attend the 2020 Championships.  BQ presently, in a revised plan have postponed all representative dates to at least August. They will make a final decision on these dates and competitions sometime in July. Therefore, there will be no representative basketball played until at least after the July school holidays. BQ is hoping to hold state championship events for all age groups in the September/October school holiday period. Also, they would like to host a QNJBC event if possible before any state championship to give the children some game play together. Obviously, there is a lot of regulations and restrictions to get through before this can be solidified. As soon as BQ advises MBI of any decisions/updates we will let you know asap. During this time please refrain from contacting Lukass as he will advise all teams on any decisions as we know about them.

New Website

The brand-new Mackay Basketball website is now up and running and it looks great. Our web address is www.mackaybasketball.com.

Grandstand Project

Our new corporate grandstand has been coming along well.  We hope you all follow the Mackay Basketball Facebook page which has been supplying weekly updates, with a comical approach to you all. Today, the fireproof sheeting under the stand will be completed and it looks amazing. There will be several different rooms in there once completed.

To finish this update, it will be everyone’s responsibility to ensure that we adhere to all protocols that are put in place so that we can, going forward, get back to some sort of normality.
