Hello Mackay Basketball Members and Families.
We hope that you are all dealing well through the uncertain times bought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the latest update from Mackay Basketball to keep you informed as best we can.
McDonald’s Mackay Multi-Sports Stadium
Great news! The MBI Covid-19 safe readiness plan has been approved by Mackay Regional Council for Stage 2 activities. This means from Monday 15 June 2020, we can have members come in for casual shooting. If you would like to do this, you must call MBI and book your session time. Times will be available on the hour from 9am and the last session will begin at 2pm. To book please call the office on 4957 5543 and the cost will be $5 per session. Please note you must bring your own ball, water bottle and towel, and these items cannot be shared.
With the approval of Stage 2 protocols, there will be access for the junior rep teams to make a comeback to training starting from next week. Your individual team coaches will be in contact with you about when your team will be training. These sessions can only be once a week for 40 minutes, and are non-contact, so they will be a little different to the normal but still beneficial in getting back on court.
Return to Training Video
Mackay Basketball have created a video to explain the procedures involved with our ‘Return to Training’ guidelines, please be sure to watch this video to understand what’s involved!
Basketball Queensland Fee
Some good news from BQ in that they will be extending the BQ fee membership for all members who had a valid 365-day product at 13 March 2020 for 120 days. Please see advice direct from BQ:
As you would all appreciate the disruption to basketball has been unprecedented due to COVID-19. It is with this in mind that we have decided to take the unprecedented step of extending the membership of all members who had a current registration as of the 13th March 2020, by 120 days. (Approximately 30,000 members).
To give you a practical example, if someone’s registration was due to expire on the 1st July 2020, their registration will now expire on 29th October 2020.
This will mean that when registrations are reopened those people whose registration would have expired during the shutdown will not have to repay their registration when re-joining Association programs.
Competitions
Several versions of how basketball competitions will return, when restrictions allow, will be proposed to club delegates at a club consultation meeting being held tomorrow. MBI shall update you all when we have more clarity about competitions after feedback from clubs.
New Website
The brand-new Mackay Basketball website is now up and running and it looks great. Our web address is www.mackaybasketball.com
To finish this update, it will be everyone’s responsibility to ensure that we adhere to all protocols that are put in place so that we may can, going forward, get back to some sort of normality.
